How to select the best qualified personal trainer...

It is always important to take the time to interview the fitness trainer and ask them about their experience, client results portfolio, continuing education and references.

Here are several items you should ask for during the Interview

  • Client referrals (minimum of 4)
  • Before and after photo from clients they trained in the last 18 months
  • Evidence of meeting or exceeding the certification requirement for continuing education every year
  • List of the national fitness conventions they have attended over the past 5 years
  • Copies of their certification or degree
  • Evidence of CPR Certification and insurance
  • Articles they have authored about Health and Fitness

Other important qualities and skills to look for and expect from an experienced Personal Trainer
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Motivational ability
  • Professionalism and dependability
  • Role model, Do they practice what they preach?
  • In-depth knowledge of exercise technique and exercise theory
  • Up to date knowledge of human anatomy and nutrition
  • Knowledge and awareness of current trends in fitness and nutrition
  • Strong relationships with other medical/health care professionals such as:  Doctors, Cardiologists, Registered Dieticians, Physical Therapists, Chiropractors, and other Personal Trainers,
  • Membership in professional organizations such as the NSCA, ACSM, IDEA, ACE, AFAA,  etc.
